Beauty on a Dreary Winter Day

I would like to full body hug whoever invented the idea of growing bulbs in the house during the winter. This past weekend was the coldest in quite some time and yet I had the beauty of a spring garden, right in my living room. I don't know what kind of flower it is or what to do with it after it dies but I am LOVING it!

And is it just me or do these stamens look like little loofah brushes?

Smile, life is good!

I am a Farmer!

A special thank you to all that wished me well in my quest to grow my first tomato. As you can see I've been pretty darned successful! We will be living off this tomato for weeks.

Okay, really its the size of a golfball. but at least that pesky squirrel didn't get it!

Getting to Know My City

I have some friends coming to visit me and my city, Philadelphia, for the first time next month. Now Philly is rich with historic sites and touristy things to do but like most people here I haven't done many of them since I was on a school trip in elementarty school, if ever. Here is a cool place I went to see last week.

Eastern State Penitentiary

This place opened in 1839 and housed some pretty famous criminals including Al Capone and bank robber Willie Sutton. The craziest story I heard that day is about a dog named Pep that was given a life sentence for killing the governor's wife's beloved cat. The cutest black lab but even in his mugshot (yep, he had a mugshot) he looked guilty as sin.

For more information on this totally cool but spooky place check out http://www.easternstate.org/

Who knew there was such an interesting spot right here in Philly!

Here's to friendship!

I've been lucky in life to have the greatest friends. The kind that make the tears stream down your face with laughter and the kind that are there for you when the tears are real. Yeah yeah, that sounds schmaltze but you know what I mean..... when a parent dies, when you you have a health scare, when the vending machine is out of Milky Ways. Most of us have been there.

Now I find myself with a whole new set of online friends, many that I suspect I'll be friends with for years to come. How great is that? I'd name you all but what if I accidently forgot someone. That would be hideous. Anyway this is a tribute to friends and a few pics of a few of mine.

Thats me on the left with Debbie, Vicki and Hoffer.

Yeah, me on the left again and yeah, I know, I'm holding another beer. My eyes look goofy. Thats because in the original photo I had my eyes shut so I stole Debbies eyes. Creepy huh? I'm with Debbie, Carol and Cindy in a bar in Salem.

I couldn't talk about friends without mentioning Trisha. This is an old pic. This was taken on a funny day. We went to the racetrack, smoked cigars and drank Martini's.

Here's to old friends.... new friends.... and the friends that make you wish you were wearing Depends!

Wow, I'm a blogger!

So, as it turns out.... I AM blog worthy. Who knew? Certainly not me. I've been putting this off for what seems like forever but it's time to join the new century with as little kicking and screaming as possible.
